- There will be a short preparation meeting
(informal, no uniforms) for all AT hike participants on Monday 11/12 at
7:30 pm at the Cascade Meeting House. Each hiker should bring his
packed backpack with all personal gear (sleeping bag, clothing,
outerwear, etc) for checkout. A backpacking checklist
is available elsewhere on the troop website. For any scouts in need of
proper gear, every effort will be made to loan/source needed items.
Necessary troop equipment (tents, tarps, etc) will be provided to
participants, and patrol food plans will be confirmed at the meeting.

snowshoeing to the White Mountains in New Hampshire. Two nights at the Zealand
Falls hut. Cost is $110, and includes a cabin (2 nights), weekend
snowshoe rentals, and provisions. Permission slips were due on November
5, 2007. Bring a bag lunch for Saturday, and money for for a meal en
route on Monday.

- Maple sugaring, Stamford Nature Center. Each
year Troop 11 operates the colonial maple sugaring demonstration at the
Nature Center's maple sugaring day. We'll start building a fire a bit
before the official 11am start time. Scouts are encouraged to volunteer

- Day hike, training for Philmont. This will be a
moderate-to-strenuous, 7.5-mile day hike, with a 660-foot elevation
change, some great views, and an easy forest road finish. This hike is
primarily for this year's Philmont participants, so they will have
priority if car space or adult supervision is limited. Cost is free.
We'll be hiking the Round Hill /
East Mountain loop in Fahnestock
State Park in Putnam County, NY. (This
link describes the hike with photos, but doesn't cover East
Mountain and reverses the hike from the way we will do it.)
Let Andy Siegel know as soon as possible if
you plan to attend this hike. Permission
slips for this hike must be gotten to Andy before or as we depart
on the morning of April 20. Bring the signed slip with you to the
parking lot, or mail to Andy at the address on the slip. No slip, no
trip!

- Fishing / Camping. We will be fishing on scout
parent Carl Madsen's fishing boat. All fishing gear is provided. The
boat leaves the dock at 8am, and returns about 8 hours later.
Afterwards, we will be camping in lean-tos at Seton Scout
Reservation in Greenwich.
Bring a bag lunch to eat on the boat (lunch is
also available for purchase), sunblock, warm sweater and/or windbreaker
to wear on the boat, and overnight camping equipment appropriate for
the season.
Cost is $35. Permission slips must be
returned by Monday, April 21.

- CT Yankee Council Shakedown Hiking and Campout.
This will be held at Sleeping Giant State Park (Hamden, CT). Everyone
in the CT Yankee Council 2008 Philmont Contingent (8 crews) is expected
to participate. The group that we will be traveling with consists of
about 90 scouts. Council has planned some training on Philmont
practices and some serious hiking. So please come prepared will your
full personal backpacking gear (incl. 35+ lb pack). Although some crews
are going to spend 2 nights at Sleeping Giant, our plan is to travel
early on Saturday 5/3, returning Sunday AM. The permission slip must be
completed and returned by Monday, April 28.

strenuous, 7.7-mile day hike, with a 2000-foot elevation change and
incredible views of the Hudson River. This hike is limited to this
year's Philmont participants. Cost is free.
We'll be hiking the Breakneck-Undercliff Loop,
just north of Cold Spring, NY.

Lehigh Gorge, PA. Permission slip,
liability
waiver form, and $80 check (made out to "BSA Troop 11") are due
at June 9 meeting. No exceptions! There will be no late
registrations for this trip, and no refunds.
We will be meeting in the church parking lot
on Friday evening at 4pm, having dinner en route, camping in tents at
the Whitewater Challengers campground, and then checking in at 8am on
Saturday morning for the early trip. We should wrap up by about 2pm. We
expect to be home by dinner time -- we will not stop for dinner on the
return trip.

includes all air and ground travel, meals, whitewater rafting and more.
