Sat Sep 25, 6:30am to Sun Sep 26, midday

Fishing and camping. We will be fishing on former Troop 11 parent Carl Madsen's commercial fishing boat, the Riptide III. All fishing gear is provided. We will meet at the church parking lot at 6:30am on Saturday. The boat leaves the dock at 8am sharp, and returns about 8 hours later. Afterwards, we will be camping in lean-tos at Seton Scout Reservation in Greenwich.

Bring a bag lunch to eat on the boat (lunch is also available for purchase), sunblock, warm sweater and/or windbreaker to wear on the boat, and overnight camping equipment appropriate for the season. Cost is $35. Permission slips must be returned by Monday, September 20.

November 2010

Sat Nov 13 8am to Sun Nov 14 early afternoon: Appalachian Trail hike, Cornwall Bridge to Kent, CT. Meet at NSCC meeting house. Bring a bag lunch for Saturday, and money for Sunday lunch. Cost $20. Permission slip is due November 1. Please read our backpacking checklist for details on equipment, proper clothing, etc. If you have new boots, start breaking them in now. EMS store, we have a big new REI camping store opening in Norwalk on October 8.

Mon Nov 22, 7:30-9pm: Bloody Monday first aid demonstration and Open House, community house. Area Webelos dens have been invited.
Sun Nov 28, 2-4:30pm: Rifle shooting at the Cos Cob Revolver and Rifle Club, 451 Steamboat Rd, Greenwich, CT (across from the Greenwich train station), 203-622-9508. Rifle and ammunition will be provided. No uniforms, no personal equipment. Cost is $20. Permission slip and check (payable to BSA Troop 11) are due by November 15. You are obligated to do the service project on Saturday Dec 4 (or an approved alternate community service project) in order to participate.

Service project, North Stamford Congregational Church, Cascade Road. Required for all scouts who participated in rifle shooting on Nov 28. This will be a leaf and trash cleanup around the church. Bring a leaf rake (if you have one) and work gloves.

Bring a bag lunch for Saturday, personal winter gear (sleeping bag, sleeping pad, mess kit, warm layered clothing, toilet items).Permission slip and $20 check (payable to "BSA Troop 11") due Jan 3.

For outdoors, bring:

Drinking water - prefer water bottles to avoid frozen drinking tubes on camelbacks
Waterproof (e.g. rubber) winter boots
Sunglasses or ski goggles if desired
High energy snacks (e.g., trail mix, granola)

For clothing, bring:

Dress in layers
No cotton
Socks - preferably wool, with extra dry pairs
Polypropylene long underwear
Fleece and/or wool insulation layer
Waterproof and windproof outer layer (shell)
Hand cover - mittens preferred, with liners if desired
Headgear - insulated hat, covering ears ... with scarf or balaclava to cover face, neck

For sleeping gear, bring:

Mummy-style sleeping bag, rated 15 degrees F or lower
Consider sleeping bag liner, space blanket, large plastic trashbag to slip over lower portion of sleeping bag
Sleeping pad/mattress
Stocking cap, scarf and/or balaclava to keep head warm
Non-cotton warm sleep clothes
Consider chemical handwarmers

February 2011

Sat Feb 5, 10am to 2pm: Pack 11 cub scouts are requesting Troop 11 volunteers to assist with an adventure activity station at the annual Powahay District Polar Bear event. Event will be held at Hoyt Scout Reservation, West Redding, CT. Transportation may be available if needed. Interested Troop 11 scouts, please speak to any uniformed adult leader.
Sat Feb 5, 9am to noon: Merit Badge College, Lyman High School, Wallingford, CT. This is a Connecticut Yankee Council event, not a Troop 11 event, so scouts or their parents are responsible for registering for and traveling to this event on their own. The Council contact person is Karen Andersen,mbc@ctyankee.org. The notes about the College say:
The purpose of Merit Badge College is to provide Scouts with an opportunity to receive instruction and earn merit badges in subjects where a counselor may not be available through their units. Attendance does not guarantee the award of the badge. All stated requirements must be satisfied. Credit will be given only where a specific individual requirement or project has been fulfilled.

Thu Feb 10, 7:30-8:45pm: Troop swim, Italian Center, Stamford. An opportunity to fulfill swim requirements for rank advancement. Use south parking lot entrance, proceed to pool area on left. No troop-provided transportation for this event. There is no charge to Troop 11 scouts for this event. Thepermission slip is due on Jan 31.

For those participating in the Feb 27 NYC trip, the permission slip and $65 check (payable to "BSA Troop 11") are due today.
Mon Feb 21, 7:30-9pm: School holiday — no meeting.
Sun Feb 27: Day trip to New York City: Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum, and the Museum of Natural History. Meet at the NSCC meeting house on Cascade Road at 8:45am, and return in the late afternoon. Bring a bag lunch or lunch money, and pocket money. Cost is $65, which includes transportation, museum admissions, and IMAX show. Permission slip and check (payable to "BSA Troop 11") are due on Monday, Feb 14.
Mon Feb 28, 7:30-9pm: Parents' Night, community house. All family members are invited. Please attend this important Court-of-Honor event to view a program of Troop activities in recent months, and recognize scout achievements/advancements. Upcoming event plans will be announced. Refreshments provided.
Six Flags Great Adventure check (payable to "BSA Troop 11") and permission slip are due today.

March 2011

Sun Mar 6, 10am to 3pm: Troop 11 scouts are invited to support the colonial maple sugaring exhibit at the annual Stamford Museum and Nature Center Maple Sugar Sunday. Enjoy fire building and fun maple sugaring activities (with plenty of samples!). Please confirm your participation to any uniformed adult leader.
Mon Mar 7, 7:30-9pm: Troop meeting, community house.
Fri Mar 11 to Sun Mar 13: Ski trip, Mount Snow, Vermont. Lodging, food, lift tickets are provided. Bring your own ski equipment including helmet (required), or money for rentals. Lodging at West Dover Congregational Church, West Dover, VT. Meet Friday 3:30 pm, NSCC Meeting House, Cascade Rd. Returning Sunday late afternoon. Cost is $145.00 (checks payable to BSA Troop 11). Bring a bag meal for Friday PM, sleeping and hygiene gear, pocket money. Thepermission slip is due on Feb 14.

Sat Apr 9 to Sun Apr 10: Six Flags Great Adventure Camporee, Jackson, NJ. Meet 7:15am Saturday, NSCC meeting house. Returning Sunday mid-day. Bring pocket money, personal camping gear. Cost is $70, which includes park admission, camping, merit badge offerings, and more. Very early departure planned for scouts who are participating in morning Merit Badge sessions. Check (payable to "BSA Troop 11") and permission slip are due on February 28.
Mon Apr 11, 7:30-9pm: Troop meeting, community house. Scouts planning to attend summer camp at Yawgoog Scout Reservation should notify scoutmaster to qualify for free camp hat program.
Sat Apr 16, 9am-11:30am: Community service (spring cleanup) in support of our troop's sponsor, the North Stamford Congregational Church, will be held at Cascade community house; dress for weather, bring rake, gloves for outdoor activity.

Mon May 23, 7:30-9pm: Troop meeting, Stamford Police Station (805 Bedford Street, corner of Hoyt) beginning promptly at 7:30 pm. Parents are requested to make transportation arrangements to/from the police station; carpooling is encouraged (meeting will end at 9:00 pm). Scouts should wear full Class A uniforms.
Block Island permission slip and check for $85 (payable to "BSA Troop 11") is due.

Fri Jun 10 to Sun Jun 12: Block Island campout. Meet at NSCC meeting house Friday 3:30pm. Return Sunday. Bring a bag dinner for Friday PM, swimsuit and towel, spending money, class A uniform shirt for Saturday restaurant dinner. Permission slip and check for $85 (payable to "BSA Troop 11") is due on May 23.

July 2011

Jul 24 to Jul 31: Summer Camp at Yawgoog Scout Reservation, Rockville, RI. Parents are encouraged to volunteer to spend a few days (particularly mid-week days) at camp to assist with needed adult supervision. BSA requires a current medical form including physical exam by a healthcare provider, for all participants (they are very strict about this, for both scouts and adult leaders).
